Size
Size should be considered practically before buying car. If you are going to use it personally, a two-door coupe may be just right for you. But if you are planning to pack the whole family along, a four-door sedan or a van will be more practical.

Price and budget
How much are you willing to spend for buying car? Sure you might be able to buy
a new car with better financing terms, but think about 'depreciation'. A new car loses its value the moment you drive it away from the dealer's lot. You can find certified pre-owned cars with good warranty for a small price. If you are just thinking of using it for two to three years and wanted minor repairs, you may want to just lease than purchase. Also, don't forget about other expenses along the way - e.g. maintenance and repair, monthly insurance, and gas.

Finance rates
Companies determine the rate they will charge you on several key factors: your monthly income, credit rating, debt/income ration, how current you are in paying your bills, the amount of large purchases you have financed, how long have you been in your job/company, and length of time in your residence. If possible, finance a car for the shortest period of time you can afford, because the longer you are repaying, the more interest you will accrue and have to repay.

Insurance
Every state has different insurance requirements. Some will look for liability insurance before you can register your vehicle. In other states, an 'honor system' is enough.

Depreciation and maintaining resale value
It is a fact that a new car loses its value once you drive it away on the road. But if you are buying car to keep it for a long time, it wouldn't matter much. Another important factor would be the resale value. A well-maintained car will hold most of its value and you can be sure that your manufacturer will cover your warranty properly if they see that you are taking care of the car well.

Choosing a dealership
Choose a dealership that you feel most comfortable with. Ask around for the history of the dealer or research it on the internet. Familiarize yourself with their facilities and their services. It wouldn't hurt to ask the manager some questions about the dealership and car you think of purchasing. It will give you ample ideas about how they run the business.

Choose a good dealership location so that it will be easy for you to return for the service. You do not want to cross a whole state just to tune-up your car.

The best time to buying car
Some say buying car at the end of the month will give you a good deal because they are going to squeeze in that one last deal for a real bargain. Some say the beginning of the month is the best time for buying car because the dealers want to start the month with fast sales. Whatever time you are going to buy your car, don't forget to ask about the price, additional costs, and warranty on buying car.
